The bad news is, she is the "mother", and whatever she does is OK. Justice is skewed in favour of females, as is custody. If that was the dad, it would be called "abuse".

^^^ Just because she is the "stepmom" doesn't mean crap. If it weren't for me taking over my husband's ex wive's role as mommy to his daughter she would be lost. Bio mom is still in the picture but she is not stable and the judge allows her to have visits with her daughter, "when its convenent for her only". Trying to kill yourself is one thing, but in front of a child is downright wrong.

The people above saying back off are morons! Continue to be there for the child. Just because you are not bio mom doesn't mean shit! Don't say anything negative about the mother in front of the child.Tell her how awesome she is! Get her counseling. Tell her that it's okay to have feelings and talk about things that upset her.
