op here: well I hope I can make it to March, that will mark my 7 year point and a lot of jobs only require 7 years clear. but that's still 8 months away. Illinois isn't too supportive on ppl trying to restart their lives and show whoa person really is and not what some record or file says. but thanks to you all for the comments.

In some states, companies can go back 10 years on your criminal record. Some go back to your 18th birthday, even if it was 25 years ago. Be glad you live where you do, Bub. Fuck up when you're a kid, and pay for it the rest of your life. While other people never get caught who've done much, much worse. I guess that's life.

I work with a guy that did 3.5 years at Stateville for selling pot, and he's a really cool guy. He got a job, I'm sure you will too.

^ I did just over 5 years in Illinois prisons you do not do 3.5 years @ stateville just for pot! Stateville is a Maximum Security....murders, shooters, and rapist go there. Anyways to the op yeah Illinois sucks when you have a felony of any kind. they do have a lot of jobs that want 7 years clear but we have the 10 years clear to. GL

Good for you! Here you are coming out of JAIL and getting a job and my husband has worked for the same company for 28 years and was let go due to the auto industry cut backs. There aren't any jobs for us normal hard working middle class people. I can't imagine how hard it must be for someone getting out of jail if it's this hard for us. Good luck to you. You're getting a second chance at a decent life. I hope we get one too.

op here; yeah I have actually had job offers to jobs I didn't apply for, got my resume online, but then of course when they hear I have a felony they withdraw. So it's not my job skills, and besides I know and do out work anybody. Most people who see me don't believe I was in prison, because I look like a "normal" white guy. So anyways the journey continues....

I work with a bunch of tattooed, lip/nose/eyebrow/ "God knows what else" pierced f***ers who I wouldn't want serving me a Happy Meal at a McDonald's. I guess they never got into trouble with the law though; they all have high-paying jobs and I don't (yet).

I don't know how old this was but I prayed for you - my man was locked up for 3 1/2 years and got a pretty good job now. Were a family and I am so glad I waited. It will be a fresh start - good luck!

I cried when I read your post. My brothere been in prison for seven years and has six left. He was down for two years before this sentence-when he got out last time he wlked like he was wearing handcuffs- after only two years he was that institutionalized. It was terrible. Then he got he got a job at Denny's as a dishwasher(the only place that would hire him)and kept it for eight months. I was pregnant and young and he was supporting me. His manager saw him handing a girl some ice cream and fired him on the spot for "stealing". It was awful. he couldn't find another job and ended up back in his old lifestyle. I really am praying for you and everyone else in your shoes. Good luck to you. Have faith and stay strong no matter what.
