Jailing someone for possessing pot is absolutely ridiculous. It is one of the reasons that the rest of the world laughs at the US. I've never used it, but I think to criminalize it is insane.

^it is not funny...good people who go to jail get hard in order to survive it. my uncle was never the same after he went in (hit and run, killed a teenager) he is a very bitter man now.

he was in it for 3 years (OP) because of the pot charge and around here its such a podunk town the cop said he "assaulted him" in all reality they tackled him... from age 18-21... he was around criminals... and since then he still has dreams about it even though it was 10 years ago and he cant get his record expunged here... they dont do that... there is only 1 case ever so he has this hanging over his head forever. We have a son now who is 19 months...and he doesnt do drugs anymore, hell he doesnt even drink but our son gets to suffer for something that is being legalized other places because when they see drug felony, thats the end of that.

I am sick and tired of my hard earn money going to the owners of all these prisons for "jailing" a pot smoker... Give me a BREAK! Using it or selling it should be fined (since it is not legal yet) and nothing else

To the OP: I spent 5 years in prison, for something I didn't do. Never been in any trouble b4. I got out dec 08. I have nightmares to. some are just memories during sleep. it is hard, even in my state IL after 10 years most employers will hire, some even after 7. my 7 year mark is 7 months away. so i do day labor but it has dried up and im in trouble. but.....

for you guys you could move, if moving was an option for me I would. most states are at least 7 years except Hawaii seriously. so i maybe losing my place the end of the month im out of money and work is scarce. good luck

^he was an undiagnosed narcoleptic. he sideswiped the kid at nite out in the country after dark (the kid had black clothes on and no reflectors) he fell asleep at the wheel and swerved off the road for just an instant and didn't know he had hit something until he saw the damage to hit truck the next day. he was a volunteer emt and firefighter and an upstanding member of his community. regardless, i'm not saying he didn't FuCk up (because he did), my comment was about how much going to prison changed his personality.
