You know, a lot of what you say is true. I think for the most part people just are not geniune. They hide behind a veil. i guess it is a type of diplomacy or some twisted way of acting in polite society, to cover our shortcomings and avoiding revealing too much about ourselves

Personally, I learned this lesson at a very young age. So I keep people at a distance on purpose and take all their crap with a grain of salt. You don't have to live in a shell, just keep them at arms length and remember they are human. Made my life a hell of a lot easier and stress free!

I disagree somewhat. I have really great friends who tend to tell me the truth no matter what. They are also supportive without being harsh. I find the not-good friends are phonies though, they will lie to you because being a good friend is not a value of theirs.
