look up holistic/natural foods for ways to produce breast milk... there are natural ways to start the milk flowing... if it doesn't work, some bodies are just not designed to do it. My best freind was the same way.

LaLeche League... Give it one more shot...

Not the worst thing that could happen I suppose. My wife's family firmly believes that breastfeeding your baby is about the most unnatural thing one could do. *eyeroll*

Breast feeding was the hardest thing I have ever tried. After six weeks I was all dryed up. I'll try again next time.

^ 3 up - the most UNnatural thing? Your wife is clearly delusional. Breastfeeding is the most human thing you can ever do.

Have you tries milk thistle? Definitely work with a LLL consultant, because it's not too late. The benefits FAR outweigh the difficulty.

I had that problem too. My Dr prescribed the generic Reglan...and it was pouring out just a few hours later. The problem is it kicked my a** and I was constantly sleepy. 3 months of that was enough for me. I never did get my son to latch on properly, but pumping was a compromise I could live with. Good Luck, and give it one more chance!

*i have tried everything from an sns supplementer, to every herb in the book, pumping after nursing, i even got his tongue clipped in hopes that would help his latch....i even let him get to the point where he stopped pooping and peeing the first week he was first born in hopes my milk would come in and i wouldnt have to use formula. i have talked with the LLL and wic and my midwife, breastfeeding groups trying to find something to help, but nothing increased my supply....it has only dwindled over time. i have not tried reglan because of a past history with depression....but i have been able to get donor milk for him for at least another two months. i just wish it had worked out :(

Maybe this is crazy but let your husband suck on them every night and let us know what happens within a few weeks. No joke. His sucking power just might get things started.

Wow, that worked for us also. It really did. We both like it too.

Well, OP you are depressed now anyway, right? Reglan has been linked to some neurological disorders, but it was worth the risk for us. I didn't get depressed, but I was sleepy as all get out. But it was worth it to see that I could sustain my boy. I also stretched out my pumped supply by mixing it with formula. That way, he got the benefits long after I dried up. Also, the donut shaped nipple shields helped stimulate my production. Sometimes I didn't even have to take the meds. :) Call ur Dr. Just ask about the Reglan. You'll regret it if you don't ask.

Breastfeeding, for me, was the most painful thing I ever experienced for the first four weeks. Bleeding, cracked and sore.... Please don't give up. It's a wonderful thing. And you're NOT a failure! No matter what!

^^depression is nothing to fool with, especially post partum. if the op is already depressed putting her on meds that cause lethargy and depression is a terrible idea! have you ever heard of post partum psychosis? very dangerous :(

Here is a thought I have not seen.... the baby can survive on bottled milk just fine, maybe you should be grateful that you got a baby. There are so many couples who can't even have one. This is a short term problem and then you will be into the important part of life where you raise them. Show a little gratitude. You HAVE the baby.

I'm so sorry that this has been your experience with breast feeding. I only got to nurse my son for three months before my milk dried out. It turns out my dr had given me the wrong birth control and it is know for drying up lactation. I was simply devistated. I didnt forgive the doctor for a long time.
