My husband took unemployment.. he is not a bum. He paid into the system and when he lost his job he had to still feed his children. Then he got a job and is paying into the system again. Get off your high horse. That was not your money anyway.

OK. So maybe there are some bums... what about their kids? Is it the kids faults their parents are messed up? Do those kids deserve to go without food and healthcare? If nothing else we should be taking care of the children always and that is not happening because greedy people would rather have all of their material possesions. What a tart!!! Unemployment we all pay out of weekly or bi weekly pay it based on your yearly earnings. I pay into it and have every right to collect it especially after being laid off which is not my choice.. besides I look daily in many ways for work to put it plain and simple there is not enough jobs for all the current unemployed. Otherwise we should have an opt out option just as we fill out forms in order to get a job. My check also pays toward welfare and food stamps that i cant collect but you don"t see me crying.

OP: My dad served his country until he was in his thirties, and he still serves it through his job. You make fun of me for being republican, but my democratic friends complain about expensive medical bills while smoking pot and texting on their iphones. 4 years in the military is a lifetime of free health care, and they're all too lazy to bother, instead spending their time smoking and complaining while my dad's money pays for their unemployment. i knew a kid once who joined the army. he got a free college education. free health insurance. free retirement benefits. free room and board. free food stamps. oh and dont forget his actual income......52,000 a year i believe. all because he peeled potatoes in a kitchen on-base here in the states. he told his recruiting officer that he would never serve in combat because guns scared him and he would file as a conscientious objector if they ever tried to force him to do it. well the recruiter needed to make his quota that month, so he got to work in the kitchen instead. hard to believe that the government would pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in benefits to someone who handled root vegetables all day isnt it? our system is totally FuCkEd.

^^^^^OP: yes, I KNOW you don't get free unemployment, but I also know tons of people who don't bother looking for new jobs and sit on it. And my dad doesn't work for the government anymore, it's a military attachment that gives him no obligations to the gov. He works HARD, and soley to provide for his kids. So yeah, in my books he IS some big man.^^^^ if the government pays so much to people who just handle the food, WHY DON'T people take advantage of that?? Everyone expects free stuff for sitting around, why is serving the country that serves you (in any way possible) SO BAD?? First of all, employEES do not pay into unemployment. EmployERS pay into it. No regular worker has ever contributed to unemployment. Ever. Second, not every person on unemployment is a bum.
