I am British. I visited the U.S. a few years ago. Although I found the people very nice personally, and quite funny, my observation of the culture indicated that Americans do not look out for each other. I would not call it selfish. I think it is more like indifferent to your fellow citizens. I do not think Ameicans even know their neighbors.

There are a few people here that sound old enough tto remember what the original purpose of Welfare was. The original purpose was to provide families with supplemental in come while the husbands were serving in the military. Women did not work in those days. Medicaid has grown into a program that allows people to live FREE on the taxpayer dollars. These people should not get liquor, cigarrettes, soda, etc. with food stamps. They should getr jobs and stop feeding off the country. As a veteran, I am tired of fighting for non-Americans who are here for the free ride.
