There is always the option of not joining the military. Also, your not missing much by not going to bars. People there just a bunch of no good losers and drunks. Steer clear of that crowd. Your future self will be grateful.

18 is NOT too young, since nearly every country in the civilized world has an 18yo drinking age. The problem is that when you make something "forbidden", people binge on it when they can. If kids were raised drinking modestly and responsibly like in much of Europe, there would be no issue. Blame it on our idiotic Puritan/Calvinist ancestors.

I joined the Marine Corps at age 16, with parental consent. I was not allowed to drink, which did not matter, since there were not too many gin mills is southeast asia. Israel takes their people into the military at age 12. Should they be able to drink? They should not even be in the military at that age. We need to get our priorities straight, cut the garbage, and get it done!
