UNTIL THEY TRIED TO ATTACK MY HUSBAND AND COME INTO MY HOUSE AND MY INFANT WAS 5 FOOT AWAY FROM THAT?!?! HELL NO, ITS BECAUSE THEY ARE BLACK THEY GET AWAY WITH IT. To the second commenter the civil war had little to do with that part it was about the south seperating from the north. Around that time Oklahoma and Texas wanted to be seprate from both also.

I grew up in the northern U.S. when my dad was here for work. After becoming an adult I moved to live in Virginia to work for 20 years. I became close friends with a few middle-class blacks. I asked the question to them about the flag. It made sense to me when they said the Confederate flag to them is the same as the Nazi flag is to a Jew. When they see it, they do not see being able to freely express one's heritage. It is a message high atop a flag pole of fear, intimidation, control and death. I have agreed with them since. This, from a person whose family is from Tennessee, Georgia, and South Carolina. Op, I knew these blacks well. You are never going to have peace with your neighbors because of your flag stance. You neighbors think you hate them as much as the Southerners hated the blacks a century ago. Your kids will always be tormented. You need to find another place to live. Preferrable a house rather then an apartment. A cop friend told me apartments are always a place for police problems.

Lincoln and Grant were far too kind to the traitorous leaders of the confederacy. The secessionist generals and political leaders that survived the war should have all been hanged for high treason. Their "cause" was unjust and un American. Their should be a federal law against displaying the confederate flag anywhere. It is hateful and hurtful to an entire race of Americans!

I too boought into the "Heritage, not hatred" slogan for the confederat flag. Until I saw some old film footage from the civil rights era. There were maybe a hundred Blacks marching and singing hymns in protest ofnot being allowed to vote (one of the many rights that they had fought and dies for in wars, yet were being denied) and there were hundreds upon hundreds of Whites along both sides of the street screaming racial slurs, spitting at them, throwing things, and waving confederate flags. There was a White man walking along the crowd handing out MORE flags saying, "Take a flag, brothers. Take a stand." More clips were shown of other such marches and beatings of Blacks and in each you couldn't count how many confederate flags were being waved. No matter how much you try to claim the flag is not about hatred, those folks knew then as you (deep down)know now, it meant then, as it meant during the civil war the subjugation and oppression of fellow human beings. Sure you have the RIGHT to wave it. But be reasonable. Choose your battles wisely. DON'T put yourself or family at riskdefending this shameful rag. And if you're wondering, I too was born and raised in the South.

Everyone has the right to fly what they want. I grew up in Detroit so we always felt the stars and bars flag was a negative thing. How can anyone fly a flag that was connected with the slavery of an entire race of people? Just like I wouldn't want my neighbor flying a nazi flag! We mostly fly the American flags around here. It's good we live in a country where we can fly whatever flag we want but at the same time we should concider how others might feel. If they want to hang a confederate flag in their house who cares but outside does seem in bad taste.

actually its offensive to ppl who find that slavery is offensive. make no mistake, the south couldnt have existed without free labor for a couple hundred years. that flag wouldnt exist without black slave labor so be poroud of your herritage and thank those slaves for it.
