They may not understand, but I definately share that sentiment. Only I do really want to get married, but am terrified that no one will want me for that long... and so I say I don't want to because it makes it feel like the pressure is off.

If you do love this person, then at some point a "marriage" of sorts will be the result. If you really just want to feel that your lover "loves you that much" then you are just setting them up for pain and embarrassment.
