What my hubby did was jump in and stand up for his younger brother and younger brother's wife. It wasn't a major falling out or anything, it was just enough to catch the old man off guard. He was shocked that anyone spoke up at all against anything he said. All of us left soon after that. There has not been as much contact between my father-in-law and his sons since that one incident. We'll see how things go over time. That was a start!

Excellent! I'm glad to hear this and I'm proud of him. How humiliating it must have been for him to hear his father talk him up all this time when the truth was never spoken. One minute I feel sorry for him, the next I'm angry that he did not defend you. So, thanks for the update and hopefully it will be enough for F-I-L to figure out that if he wants his family around, he has to accept their wives as well and stop being a "better than the world" kind of tyrant. Thank you all! The in-lawsre planning a bbq for Memorial Day. My hubby brought it up before I did - said it's hard not to just put up with his dad, but he and his brother talked it over and have decided to stick together against a few thing their dad has been doing. Apparently us gals don't know the whole story, but apparently their dad treats their mom pretty crummy too.

Sounds like a sexist pig, but I'm guessing he came from that generation. But with all the new "education" that has come about in the last 30 years, you would think he could get on the band wagon for a while. While I read that and saw that your hubby and his brother are in concert with each other, it sounds to me like there is another issue that goes way beyond the spouse or woman thing. I hope all works out for all of you though. It's kind of sad that family has to be strained like this.
