1^...I totally agree. And OP, just because a few bad seeds look down on you doesn't mean everyone else does. I have several friends and family members that are volunteers and a few that started out as volunteers and are now fire chiefs. There are many who are proud of you and appreciate your hard work. Please don't get discouraged by a few people. Very few people would put themselves in harms way for a complete stranger and not expect anything in return. If it's in your heart to volunteer, stick with it and keep up the good work!!!!

THE WORLD IS SELFISH IS ALL ABOUT "ME ME ME " and any one who thinks of others are mocked, insulted, hated ... Etc I would love to and wish I could volunteer for many different thing helping others, there is no greater joy!!! Those who seek self are miserable and they try to find happiness by seeking more self which results in more misery that causes them to despise those who have a happy heart in spite of lives ups and downs.. A vicious cycle!

I have NEVER looked down on volunteers.I think they are WONDERFUL! There is a big difference in getting paid to do something and volunteering to do the same job. It is self-sacrificing, putting the needs of others over your needs. It is so kind and wonderful of you.Continue being the brave and generous person you are!

I think the proper response to that is "So how much should I be risking my life for?" There are somethings worth way more than money and your service is one of them. My volunteer work is way more interesting that the stuff that pays the bills.
