I know what you are going through. Back in 01, I blew my knee out. They immediately gave me vicodin. 1 year ago, I said, "no more"! I hated them plus I was getting a kidney transplant. I had withdrawals for a month. It was just mainly shaking and being cold. But, it was worth it. You can do it, just tell yourself the same. Good luck

mmmmmm, yummy vicodens........why are you scared to quit if you really want to. sounds like a b.s. excuse to me. been there done that.....if you really want to quit then you'll find a way, otherwise you are just lying to yourself to make yourself feel better about your addiction.

I plan on quitting, I have about 50 of them left and I have been weaning myself off of them. I take up to 10 a day, 6 at one time in the AM and 4 or so through-out the day. I do have pain in my foot from a bunion surgery gone bad but I'm sure OTC pain relievers would take care of it. My DOC just keeps giving them to me, I just flirt with him a little bit and show some cleavage and I ALWAYS get what I want!!! last bottle was 130 plus 5 refills.....

glad to hear you're weaning, but just keep in mind that it isn't so much about the physical as the mental...that is the part that will get to you, esp when you get down to your last one. i actually kept one just to keep myself from freaking out about not having any, and then going out and getting a whole bunch more. by me saying no to the one, i was in control, until it didn't bother me to just throw it out. quit cig's the same way.

p.s i took 15 at a time...the physical w/d is nothing to fret about.

there are support groups for addictions! Just google Narcotics Anon in your area! It's great to be able to share your thoughts and problems with like minded, non-judgemental people. If you are that addicted you can go to a local court and ask to be placed in a drug court program, they will definitely stop your destructive behavior!!

Can we all share some now that you told us.

I have 10 left! I haven't taken any yet today!! So far so good!! The reason why I am nervous to stop is because they are such a "hush hush" drug! No one knows I'm taking them, not my bf, my mom or my kids! I don't get all f-ed up when I take them, they just make me feel like I can get through another busy day! Also my BF is a total a** and I hate him and taking the pills help me feel like what ever he says to me won't hurt as bad because I have a secret shield! Him and I have 3 kids and he has been emotionally abusive for quite some time. I don't work, I just care for him and the children all day! I have no life other than my kids! This man is 15 years older than me and I want nothing more than to quit him as well as the pills!!!

Also I tried calling NA, they want me to go to support groups, I just want a program that helps people through phone calls! I CAN DO IT on my own! I don't want to go to groups. I just need someone to talk to when the situation gets tough!! Any Thoughts?

To the poster who gave me the great info on keeping one for control!! Were you worried about your liver? I have 7.5-500 and yesterday I took 6 at a time, then 3 hours later took 4 more, I went over the acetaminophen guidelines, which says that taking more than 4000mg can kill you, so now I'm a bit freaked out!! I went to bed last night thinking I wasn't gonna wake up....but I did and that is one reason why I haven't taken them today!! I added it up since 10/20 I have ingested 110,000 mg of acetaminophen. THats INSANE!!!!

Your doctor should be stripped of his license and imprisoned. You need to see another doctor, tell him the story, then get to a de-tox where you can be safely withdrawn. Don't try to do this alone.

i have done up to 800mg of oxycontin a day for months. Trust me, the best thing you can do is gewt off thatt shit. Find support groups, believe me they work. dont limit yourselfr to just phone calls. Go through a detox program, either with methadone or suboxone. But like said, the mental is way bigger then the physical. Believe it and address it, or you will find yourself right back on the pills, not understanding why.

yes, i said 800mgs. that isnt a typo. if i could quit, you can. Mylife was a disaster on top of that.

I feel you. I was addicted to VIcs/Percs @ 1st, and thenm moved on to Oxys, Morphine and Heroine, for the better part of 7 years. I've been clean now for 8 months. It's been hell, but I got put on methodone by a Dr. and suboxone too for a time. Both drugs keep one form withdrawing and work beautifully. If you really want to get off the pills, check out these 2 medicines and get a Dr. to prescribe them to you. You'll feel better than you ever did if you stick to those meds and get off the pills.

check yourself into a rehab clinic or get a really good day outpatient treatment center. Even if you think no one knows, they do. Your work may have coverage for the treatment as well. Good luck. Sober living is a blast!
