Don't be so sure. Many religions are fanatical and claim to be "the one" and if you don't believe you are doomed for all eternity. Since man could write we have believed in gods. When you were writing this you were talking to someone even if you feel it was your conscious. There may or may not be something out there watching but to be so dead set against it is basically the same thing as the fanatical religous people, IMO

I have no qualms with atheists at all, but I do think that atheists who try to prove religious folks wrong are just as bad as evangelicals trying to convert you. If you have a right to not believe in god, they have every right to believe and its none of your business. To each his own.

It seems to me that the point is the same, believing and not. If you live to serve God, lead a good and productive live. If you don't, then I'd do the same, because this is all you will ever have.
Personally, I don't buy atheism. Hang an atheist out a ten story window by one foot, or have a nut-job put a gun to his head, if he does not cry out to God for help, then I'll grant him his precious belief in nothing. For me, life just can't be that pointless.

Life isn't pointless, it's just finite. Religion is man's fear of the unknown that is death. That is why the faithful claim that life is "pointless" without faith. It is their attempt to desperately clutch at something beyond the threshold of death. In the example above, holding me out of a 10 story window will not get me to cry out to a god that isn't there. And I have had a gun pointed at me already. Still no cry out to any god. You see, unlike most people, I accept the finality and inevitability of death, of permanent oblivion. It is much more comforting to me than the thought of any kind of afterlife.

God's there, no doubt, whether you acknowledge Him or not. You can have a gun to your head or not - what?? you think you're going to surprise Him? If He allows the gun to go off, it's because He didn't see any harm to you or Him, you'll be with Him in Heaven. It's the many times that I've heard people try to kill themselves (or others) and the mechanism DOESN'T work that makes me think that God wants you to stick around and start looking for Him.
