You can still be a part of childrens' lives in a meaningful way. It sounds like you have a lot of love to give. There are a lot of kids out there who need a big brother. And being a teacher has rewards beyond the paychecks. Find a way to get involved.

Things change once you are married. I realized my SO was a child man. I couldn't trust him to be responsible and our move for his career made me realize there was no support for me as a parent. You could always be a big brother volunteer.
