It's sad that the person above is ignorant and has no religious tolerance.

I have done same, for my son.

So are you bragging or complaining?

I think he is trying to point out the irony involved in the organizations history.

I'd rather be a hypocrit than for my child to be unhappy and feel different. There are more believers than there are atheists. Thats very sad. People substitute superstitious nonsense for reason. Anybody that believes some God caused a virgin to give birth to himself and then he gets crucified in a sacrifice to himself is a bit more than I can understand.

I told the judge that I was innocent when I was really GUILTY AS HELL. And what I do with Corn Flakes in my spare time in someone else's car is my own damned business anyway.

Way to teach the kid to stand up for what you believe in.
Remove this stupid comment

and christians don't teach kids what they believe in?
Remove this stupid comment

Yes, perhaps hundreds but that's because they are misled. It goes back to the soap and religion story- soap does no good unless utilized in a becoming way. Same for religion. I think it's sad you dont have any hope after dying. But God bless you for giving your child half a chance to have that hope.

As a former Atheist boy-scout, I'd recommend you try to find a good, tolerant troop for your son (there are plenty out there). If you can't find one that'll allow the son of an atheist to join, he'd be better off playing soccer.

Because soccer is the offical sport of communism and we all no the official religon of that party.

Yes, fight some more!!! Satan loves this stuff.

If you don't believe in God, that is your choice but don't join groups that do believe. Start your own group called Satan Scouts or whatever.

I would just lie about it if your son wants to belong to the scouts that badly. besides just because you don't believe in God doesn't mean that your son believes the same as you. Try giving him a chance to see what he believes on his own.

There's a great episode of Penn & Teller's 'Bullshit' dedicated to this subject (Scouts/anti-atheists). Check it out, it's really informative.

Pope Leo X 16th century: 'it has served us well...this myth of christ'.

The Boy Scouts does not require you to believe in "God", just a "higher power." And honestly, the issue rarely comes up. The only really religious troops are commonly the ones associated with the Mormon church. My Eagle Scout son is not a Christian, but aknowledges that there is more to us than just flesh. Perhaps something more like Buddism "karma."

*eyeroll at debate* you did the right thing for your son.

Someone once said to me that she'd rather be hated for what she was, than loved for what she wasn't. I told her I'd been hated for what I was, and it was very overrated.

Since when can't you put your kid in Boy Scouts because of his atheism? It doesn't make him a bad rock climber or fisherman. I'm a Christian, and have my kids in scouts. I want them to figure out what they believe in, and not force my personal beliefs on them. Good for you to put your kids into the scouts so they can be exposed to all sorts of things, Christianity being one of them. oh, and dear Pope Leo X..blah, blah, blah... the myth of Christ is quoted by someone who was severely mislead. Christ was very real, as the archaeologist have figured out, and His body is very much gone, much to the shagrin of all those who would have killed to be able to produce the body to prove Christ's resurrection a myth. Your pride could cost you some day...be very careful.
