I'm a Vietnam vet myself. I killed nine North Vietnamese regular army soldiers. It doesn't bother me because if they had had the chance they would have killed me. I used to visit Vietnam after the war and once in Hanoi I was buying drinks for a ex North Vietnamese soldier and for no reason he burst out crying. He told me he had killed an American soldier and until he met me he was proud of himself. He met me and now he's sorry. I told him he was only fighting for his country and to quit crying. I bought him a few more beers and he was ok.
In your case its bothering you. Remember you would never have killed those guys if they had not been trying to kill you or another American.

My husband is a career Marine, but he's never been placed in a situation where he's had to take a life. I imagine that he'd be feeling the same way. No one joins the military specifically to kill people, and America wouldn't be the country it is if our service members didn't feel regret over killing others. No, the terrorists probably aren't crying over the Americans they kill, but they aren't us.
Thank you for the service you're giving, and please make sure you allow others to help you get through your experiences.

Yeah, I don't think it's anything trained to Marines, I think there are just different breeds of ppl, I can usually pick out an army guy from a Marine. Even retired guys. Anyways. You shouldn't feel bad imagine the guilt you would carry had you not shot one and they killed your buddy... You did the right thing. It doesn't matter what politics were involved or why we were there, we were the one's that were sent there to do a Job that was hard and we did it, and some are still doing it, regardless of why. Because you support the guy on your right and he supports you and you do it for the one's that came before you and for the heritage you will leave for those that come after you..

War is a vicious animal. And for a humasn to take another life I would imagine would be horrible. Although Soldiers are put in a position of survival. One must take a life in order to protect the innocent. Our American Soldiers are the Saviors of our way of life. Be proud my friend not ashamed, May GOD BLESS YOU!!
