let's see.... an accelerated world that is quite different from when I grew up in the 80's is a scary world to be in. Back then it was a little scary, but now you have to be at the very top of your game to have a chance. Kids are not even sure they are average. Most of them think they are losers and below average. ever listen to the news??? Kids do. If I was 14 again, I'd want to kill myself. It is the expression of teen nihilism that we all went through. In the 50s it was the greasers. The 60s, hippies. 70s, back to nature people. 80's punk/goth, 90s grunge/goth, etc... It's just a bunch of dumbass kids trying to figure out their place in the world. Some grow out of quick, some don't. Hell I'm in my mid 30s and still a nihilist, but I have sense enough to not dress like I live in a goddamn graveyard.

OP: Thank you to everyone who feels my pain! The kids I teach are in 6th grade so I truly fear their "depressions" in about 4 years!I absolutely help each kid as much as I can, but I must say the goth kids make me puke inside my head! Wait until they know true sadness, boo hoo.

The emo kids in high school now liked to be called Scene... I know my daughter will only go ou with these types of guys. She says most of the girls like them now. Mainly becasue they have feelingsand are not so fake like the stupid jocks. My daughter also said that she is attracted to these guys cause they have feelings not like her cold dad. But beleive me it gets really old when the boys are always crying and making my daughtr cry. The boys usually have problems with their fathers I noticed. Scared of their verbally abusive dads and hate their moms for not showing love to them as they grew up. I have been around these boys for the last 4 years and I'm tired of them always taking my daughter and my tight pants and tops home with them. And stealing my eyeliner.... Look at Adam on American Idol.... he is Scene...

I am a NYC teacher and I find the goth kids to hang out in hetero groups, they go out together and they usually are the better students in my class. If my kids gets A's I have no problem letting them dress however they want. I want to reward their scholastic success with the freedom to express themselves....
