-From OP- I am actually very intelligent, articulate, and educated. He just happens to be a fraction smarter than I am, but sees himself as a GENIUS compared to me. He doesn't put me down all the time; for every negative comment he makes there are probably 5 or 6 positive ones. My point is that, no matter how many compliments you receive, insults dig deeper and linger on the brain for much longer.

Abuse starts small, darling, then it starts to grow. If he really cares for you, he wouldn't hurt you like he does with those comments. Idiot is a strong work to bandy about like that. It sounds like he has bigger problems, and maybe he is not as smart as you think he is. I never call my girlfriend an idiot even when she does something that she cannot explain and the result is bad. I help her fix the problem and she learns why we don't do it that way any more. We are all ignorant in one subject or another, but we do the best we can. I wish you the best of luck with him.
