Well people get used to it because dogs dont live long enough .I put mine down 2yrs ago and its hard. But she was just a dog.

I lost my first ever pet (dog) three years ago and it still hurts today. I have two other little ones, when they're gone, I don't think I'll make it.

I din't know if this will help, but dogs live through snake bites and usually recover just fine. I had a Boston bull that got bit many times. He would swell up, and mope around for a few days, then be back to normal again.
