I am so sorry that you are going through this. My heart goes out to you. You will be numb for awhile, believe me you will but one day you will wake up and not feel so raw. The hurt will never go away, she was so much a part of your life but when you are crying start thinking about funny things she did or the fun you guys had and you will smile again.

I'm truly so very sorry for the loss of your beloved pet. I know how much it hurts, and am in mourning also for my pet. I won't say as time goes on it gets better, because it doesn't always. Just remember, you gave her the greatest gift in the end, peace.

what do you mean it is not a secret, maybe she hasn't told anybody she knows that she never grieved that much for a Human being, and she feels guilty about it. Why don't you go find another place to be an asshole.

I think the OP is saying that she/he grieved more for her/his dog then he/she ever grieved over a person. How hard is that for some of you to understand? (directed to #1 and #9)

Our purebred German Shepherd had the same problem. We got another good year out of him because the vet injected steroids to correct the problem of disc pressure on the nerve's of the back legs. He can still walk today albeit slowly and sideways too.

I know what its like. I lost my best friend too about a year ago. It's hard to grieve about stuff like that but it sometimes helps to think of all the good times you had and just remember she is in your heart forever.

I went through this two years ago. My lab just sat by himself. Would not eat and tried to avoid me. He would go outside and just sit panting heavy in the snow. I took him to the Vet and they told me it would cost 700 bucks to treat him, and it may not help. It was christmas time and I didnt have the money. I did have enough to kill him. I had to leave my car at the vet and have my brother pick me up, I was balling my eyes out for hours.

So sorry for your loss, she will wait for you in Heavan. No greater love than from animal, purest on earth! You gave her a great life and love, know that she passed with happiness. There are many more sad dogs in the POUND, bring another one home. You are not replacing her, but giving another dog a good life! Proud Mommy of 3 shelter dogs! RIP my other 2 babies, Misty and Beazley.

I lost my old dog the same way. Her legs wouldn't work and we had to put her down.

Wow, no matter how sad the topic the morons come out. If you don't understand exactly what this person is saying it just shows how shallow and stupid you really are. Third last post is correct, give back the love you were given, it's what your pet would want.

OP Thanks for all of the kind words. It IS a secret because I wouldn't want family to know that I grieved more for a dog than I did for others. She was 13 years old and a shelter dog, my other golden doesn't know what is going on, he keeps looking for her. I will get another shelter dog eventually. Thank all of you for understanding.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown.

I'm so sorry. I lost my Maine Coon, Miss Lucy, on Monday due to renal failure. I will miss her and her crazy antics for the rest of my life. Only an animal lover can understand what you're feeling.

I can relate... I had a beautiful Golden named Auggie for 14 years - he was my best friend all through my childhood and he was amazing all around. I lost him about a year ago. I still cry when I see a photo of him. He will forever be in my heart.

I am sorry for your loss. I have had many animals and of course along the way many losses-currently have a dog that will be 13 this year and as we have grown older together and I have grown up (finally)I realize what she has taught me about unconditional LOVE-I see her sometimes struggle with mobility and know that our time together is probably coming to its close. I will always treasure her little smile and her wagging tail-her loyalty-even when sometimes I wasn't worthy of it. I do relate to feeling that you are greiving more for her than you have for some humans in your life. I know with the exception of the grief that I feel for my son-my grief for her will be immense. Take Care

I lost my Sebastian in '99 with what sounds like the same thing. To this day I can't think of him without my eyes tearing up. My heart goes out to you, and maybe you can find some comfort in knowing others share your grief, and are thinking of you.

I was a f***en train wreck when I lost my Weimaranner for 3 weeks. I did not have 90% of that emotin on the passing of my brother or father. Just goes to show what the Power of unconditional love does to the soul.

I can sympathize with your loss. My wife and I love our dogs more than anything. I know we're both going to be basket cases when either of them passes on. It comforts me to know we will spend eternity with them hiking their favorite back country passes
