I'm sorry you have had to lose your companion. You did the right thing. A pet needs more than 50 cents per day of food, if you are a responsible pet owner. Anyone who mentions the cost of food alone, is not a responsible pet owner. Perhaps, if you have any spare time at all, you can volunteer your time at a kennel or the humane society so that you can bond with other animals, and, I hope you can visit your own pet, too, if you were able to find a home for him or her. I'm so sorry for your loss, but understand why you had to make such a tough decision.

I can barely afford my rent let alone vet bills, dog food, frontline, her heartworm medicine, getting her groomed and ect. It costs more than 50 cents a day!!!

Making the choice to allow your beloved pet to go to a family who can give it the basics it needs is a selfless act. True love is not neglect--whether it be human or pet. To the haters.. people don't get pets (or have kids) anticipating this economy and being laid off.
It sucks. Feeding it crap and/or not buying yourself your own necessary meds/food etc will not help you get another job. Is it possible to foster your pet until you get back on your feet? Can you visit him/her? I wish you luck.

I love my dog more than life itself, and would jump in front of a semi truck to save her life. She's the only thing on this planet who truly loves me, so I can just imagine the heart ache you are going through. My heart hurts for you. Just realize you truly love her because you are giving her to someone who can provide for her when you cannot. Please try to work out something so you can get your dog back. She will miss you dearly and vice versa. The pain will be too unbearable until she comes back home. I wish you well.
