Dear, because you realized your priorities in time. You said you were in this relationship for years, and then, the worst possible things happened to you (I presume that's what you mean by the worst time -- a stressful time), and then your lover left in the worst possible way. If you were not more heartbroken, it means your heart was breaking slowly already, over time, and then when a life crisis occurred, and you were numbed to it or by it. You found you had more preserverance to deal with your lover's lack of care and concern for you during this time because the worst things had already happened, and this gave you the evidence you needed (consciously or not) that your lover leaving you was by default *not* the worst possible thing. Sometimes people who lose a job, a mate, or a friend, can almost find *relief* in that they are suddenly freed from something that wasn't working, giving them the energy to devote themselves to real, or more pressing problems. Perhaps your uncaring lover has done you a favor, albeit a painful one, by helping you free up your energy resources to deal with this trying time in your life without the added stressor of a relationship which wasn't working. Even if s/he *loved* you. I wish you happiness, relief, and comfort in the coming days, weeks and months ahead of you.

Because you knew it... he just did it first. I did the same thing and I feel terrible about it but not as terrible as I felt for 14 years. I just wish I could still be with my boy. Life is hard.
