take solace in the fact that her nastiness 99% of time has nothing to do with you personally. Shes just not adjusting to being old, undesirable and childless( empty nest) very well. Its all in her head and she probably doesnt even know why shes doing it.

have a witch of a mom in law for 35yrs always treated her with resecpt for 31yrs cuz shes my dh mom not anymore after totally disresecpting my moms funeral no more dh said i told you so live and learn but i was brough up to resecpt but some just dont ddeserve it

I have to say the I was so relieved to be rid of my mother in law after my divorce. She is a horrible person who loves the misery of others, but karma is definitely playing a role in her life now.

Make her paranoid. It will become a fun little game. Think of the many ways that you can act, or things you can say to make a person paranoid. Not death threats or anything like that, but if you get creative enough, you'll actually look forward to seeing her, although the frequency of visits may become a rarity.
