i grew up mainly over seas because my father was career Army. when we moved back during my hs freshman year i hadn't ever really seen racism in other countries to the over whelming degree that is openly expressed here in America. it was reverse culture shock for me.

All the homeless on the streets of DC are mainly mentally handicapped with the metal capacity of children, that were evicted when St. Elizabeths closed. Yet Gov. always sending $ to other countries. Animals that look to us for protection are killed in the most painful ways possible, insurance companies are allowed to kill people that have paid them for years, no one but gays and lesbians believe in marriage anymore, welfare doesn't help anyone that needs a hand only those that need everything given to them, NASA can't account for billions of our dollars, the military still does the same painful deadly testing on german shepherds that it has for 50 years with no new results... it's just that if they stop, they don't get the gov. $ to do it. It's our $! I don't want them to use it this way! I think I may have proven my point... You just now realized that America isn't so beautiful?

Overall - interesting responses... white trash aside... Why do we have racism in America? Is it some kind of self fulfilling prophecy? Maybe. I don't think so. I think people don't like minorities because we put minorities in a position - a position where they have (or are encouraged [you define that]) to make decisions we don't like. Basically - don't hate the player - hate the game.

You think it's better elsewhere? You'd only be fooling yourself, but please feel free to find out. I know it's not for everyone, but you have to remember that the US is the melting pot of the world, therefore, all the ugliness and bad came from all over. It was also forged from the wars and hardships our forefathers had to endure. It's up to us to set things right for our children.

This is the OP: I never said that I wanted to go to another country, or even that is would be better there. All I was simply stating is that we can not even see past racism to accept and try to support our new president, who is (in my opinion) doing a great job trying to get us out of this hell hole that Bush got us into. Also, the way we treat each othere is just ridiculous. People on here try to post nice things, and get disgusting ugly comments by some VERY bitter people, and it makes me sick. Sorry about the educated comment earlier, I didn't realize we were only talking about racism in America, I didn't read between the lines I guess. May I take a moment to remind everyone that the Native Americans were here first? The majority of us deserve to be ashamed of our race in this country. While I am on the subject, why did the Native Americans have to pay for their own museum on the mall and now we (all taxpayers) are going to pay for a black history museum? Oh yeah... we didn't tell blacks they had to stay in one area of the country, so I guess outa sight outa mind. This nation is outa its mind.
