I called 911 because my best friend tried killing herself one night at my house. She thinks I'm a terrible person for calling. It's killing me inside.

sometime or another in our lifetime we end up doing something we are forced to do,the closeness you have for that friend overides any doubt you may have as to that persons well being, haveing been put in that situation left you no choice,YOU DID THE RIGHT THING,your friend will understand as time goes by,you certainly would have felt worse had it gone bad,

Your friend will thank you someday. You absolutely did the right thing. If s/he wanted to succeed, they wouldn't have done it in your home where it was very likely you'd find them. They'll come around.

She's a terrible person for putting you in that situation. Suicide is a selfish act as it is, this makes it worse.

If you google what to do if a friend is suicidal, the major message is that you deem the situation to be urgent, you must not commit to keep it a secret and if the situation is too much to handle on your own you must get help. You don't mention an age or if you are student, but parents and dorm RAs are a good first line of alert. Speaking of wanting to do it and trying it in the presence of others are two entirely different situations. Your friend was not in his or her right mind to subject you to this behavior. It seems there was no other choice but to call for help. whatadifference.org is a campaign that offers friends resources to deal with friends struggling with emotional or mental issues. Check it out. *hugs* You did the right thing.

She clearly isn't thinking straight, one day she'll realize what a huge favor you did for her.

Your friend did want you to intervene, otherwise she would have been successful in carrying out her suicide. The reason she is hostile towards you now, is because you 'know' so she deals with her guilt by blaming you. She is probably very ashamed right now, and it's easier to point the finger at you than to own the responsibilty for her cry for help.

I had a friend tell me he was going to kill himself, and I did nothing. He did it. Trust me, the guilt you feel right now is nothing compared to what you could feel. You did the right thing.
