I grew up in the 60's. They were great until I turned 18 (1965). The war, Richard Nixon, racism, drugs, the birth of fanatical liberalism, Kent State, poverty, ignorance all conspired to make this a conflicted time of ghastly pain and fleeting pleasure eventually leading to the mess we are in today. My generation for all it's promise has been a complete and utter failure. The more things change the more they stay the same. Man is fatally flawed and there is no changing him, at least not in the short term and who knows what evolution will bring.

As someone who grew up in the sixties, I feel that my generation just gave up. It got too hard to foster change and we gave up. I am embarrassed that we failed because it was easier to go with the status quo.

I agree with the second post to an extent. Eighties music rocked, I could have been a hippie, and with bands like Nirvana, the Cure, The Doors, The Who, and Jimmi at the top of my list... I could say I'm a new breed. You can't find free love anymore, the best you can do is pay for it.

It is easy to look back on the sixties as a good time.
But we lost all of our generation to Lying Bastard Johnson who did more to destroy America than Bush ever could.
He promised not to send us to Nam but after election he sent 550,000 of us in one year.

I grew up in the 60s, and some of me died in the 60s....and some of me is still in the 60s.
If you're a male, be glad you didn't grow up then because Nam was bad and comming back from the war was even harder. It took me almost 20 years to regain some sort of normal life again.

Just remember, it was all those hippy liberal retards who lived back in the 60's who screwed up life for us today. Nixon was a great President, so was Bush. They both had the balls to do what was right even though everyone considered it wrong. We need this kind of leadership in our world today, in politics and business.

The fact that you have a hard time relating to people your age, would have been a heavy burden when you were stoned on acid, or whatever. People like us got lost in drugs. Some of us took decades to come back and find reality. Some never did. The grass is always greener......

The sixties were vastly overated, as are my fellow baby boomers. Most of the people who were against Viet Nam just wanted to evade military service. The sixties gave legitimacy to the drug culture, and has led to the once proud USA being the world's largest consumer of narcotics. In 1965, only 12% of black births, and 3% of white births were out of wedlock. Now 70% of black births and one third of white births are out of wedlock. In 1960, it was understood that to go to college, you needed a thousand combined on your SAT's, four years of a foreign language, chemistry, physics, trigonometry, solid geometry, advanced algebra, and calculus. Now all these thing are regarded as "honors" courses when they used to be routine. I'll tell you what: If we still had the draft, we would not be involved in all these foreign wars that are bankrupting us, just like the roman empire! We have become a risk-aversive, overweight, addicted, indebted, pussified nation, and all without an enemy soldier setting foot on our soil! Hopefully our youth will correct these mistakes and turn the nation around!
