Anyone who abuses animals, abuses people, too. Usually children but it extends to anyone they have 'power' and/or 'control' over but it's actually ineffectual people taking advantage of others. You shouldn't be allowed to be involved in the raising of your children and I hope you get caught abusing the cat.

Are you 10? You are married, and supposedly grown up so act like it and direct your anger where anger is due. It's not the animals fault. If you don't like it then tell your wife to tell her mother to get rid of the cat. You can invison hurting the b**** but the poor cat doesn't have a choice where it lives. I would hate my inlaws living with us too but please don't take it out on the animal..
