I think people that say they can't find a job are really just lazy. Whenever I tell someone about an opening I know of, they always have an excuse not to apply.

Yes sometimes this may be the case, however not always. You need to keep in mind that there are not hard and fast rules for anything in this world. This is an excellent example. I hope the people around you who are lazy like this snap out of it. I enjoyed your post, it really made me think.

I totally agree, there are jobs out there just not the ones they want.

Why don't you go and find a new job?

^If I lost my job, you can bet your ass that I would find another one.

ditto.....a stingy rich friend called to solicit money after his lay off. I know he has $208,000 in his 401K.

if someone realy wants to work the fast food joints are always hiring, you might have to swallow your pride till you find what you realy want but, hey it's cash flow theres nothing to be ashamed of paying bills and putting food on the table. i admire anyone who is willing to work where they don't want to to provide for themselves and maybe a family instead of crying that there is no work out there when everyone knows mcdonalds is hiring.
Remove this stupid comment

^yeah and with 200 people that apply because of the economy that leaves 199 that walk away unemployed. and most jobs wont hire you if your overqualified for a position, go figure!
Remove this stupid comment

Try raising a family on McDollars, dumbass. Maybe they don't apply b/c they make more on UE and then they have the time to find a real job. Keep thinking the way you do and we'll all be working for minimum wage and no benefits.

lazy is a callous word. they may be depressed, self righteous, intolerant, or otherwise dysfunctional. not everyone is cut out to be a cog in the machine. for some, it's just quite unnatural. overall, work is inhumane to all. enjoy your age cage this week, and when it's over, catch up on your rest.

It's not that people are LAZY. . It's that people are scared! When you work for the same company for 30 years and they fold because the big 3 suck, now what? I don't have a degree, I don't have the money or time to go back because I need money NOW. I need to support my family now or we lose our home. After unemployment runs out (which is far more than any minimum wage job) I might have to lower myself to those jobs but in order to stay afloat I'll have to take on 2 or 3 crappy jobs just to make what I used to. Times are hard and people like you SUCK. Just remember, things have a way of smacking back around at you in order for you to learn compassion. So watch what you say about others. We aren't lazy.. we're scared shitless!

Your right! They are full of excuses! Just read their comments.

i just had my first 24 hour workday yesterday. it was all manual labor. i'm going to work in an hour. i wrote one of those "excuses". you're a poor excuse for human if you can't exercise compassion. i wonder what you're limitations are? i wonder where you fail? certainly you see your inability in understanding as a strength. you fail and you fail daily just like everyone else.

Hell ya!!!! Welfare is effn easy!!!!!!!! hell, half the country is on some sort of welfare..why not me too? I have been working and paying taxes for years, paying for all those other welfare junkies. Now it's my turn!!!! RAH!!

i fell down a flight of stairs and broke my ribs where they attach to my vertebra and now cannot do any repetitive job for more that 4 hours because of severe scoliosis....does that make me lazy?
Remove this stupid comment

^Probably does make you lazy. I know a woman that has severe scoliosis and manages a 320 unit apartment community.
Remove this stupid comment

^really? so because you know some woman with scoliosis who because she was born with it has a completely different health history than i do and she works that means that i am lazy for only being able to work part time at a much more difficult and physically challenging job than she has?! if my main job was to collect the rent checks and to make sure the plumber showed up i could work full time too dick.....i was trying to make a point that many people have issues that keep them from working full time or certain kinds of employment WHICH MAKES FINDING EMPLOYMENT DIFFICULT. i also am not on welfare or unemployment or disability so don't even go there. i am poor and have chronic pain but i am far from lazy. there are so many people out there who are hurting financially it is cruel for you to judge them :(
Remove this stupid comment

3^ I hear that! We've been paying taxes while working our asses off, to support the welfare recipients all these years. It's about time some of those tax dollars came back to US who truly deserve it!
Remove this stupid comment

2^ If you wanted to draw disability, it would probably take you 7 years to get your claim approved. Jump through hoops, cut the red tape with tweezers, get diagnosed by 15 doctors, all that.

Well, I have turned down job offers because I don't think it will be worth it to commute 4 hours a day. Not lazy, just working to pay to go to work is stupid.

Do people out of work not have a right to search for jobs that allow them to do meaningful work? After all, the OP said "people that (sic) say they can't find a job..." not people who are destitute and behind on house payments and refuse to work retail/food industry. Maybe the jobs he/she mentions aren't interesting to them. Maybe their excuses are a polite way of saying, "I'm not interested in that job whatsoever and if you really knew me, you'd know that." They have that right. I'm unemployed and looking for a career. I've held 3 retail jobs at once before, but right now my situation is different. Anyone who wants to judge me as "lazy" clearly does not know me.

I'm not lazy, I'm just waiting on Obama to make me a legal citizen so I can really push the wages down to nothing.

Wow!! There are a lot of lazy f***s out there.

18^ i don't work a micky d's but work not making much more then if i did and i'm a single parent of 7, (not by choice) and i do it alone, financially, emotionaly, spiritualy. you'd be surprised how beautiful life can be. money don't buy joy, peace, love, honesty, values, respect for others or for one self!!! true joy comes from with in. if i had a choice of material riches or riches of the soul i'd choose those of the soul!!!! i had material riches and was so miserable that i walked away from it all yrs ago with the greatest treasure of all my kids!!! they are not only my kids but my friends and to see them grow into adults of integrity is the greatest reward of all!!!!

I am laid off and feel lazy, but it's not from lack of trying, I have not gotten called back for any jobs I am underqualified for, and those who call back take their time making the actual hire. I've had a few temp jobs since I've been laid off, it really is harder than it seems out there. UE pays more than most jobs, so be a little nicer to those out of work, because I thought my job was stable, YOU COULD BE NEXT!
Remove this stupid comment

^ Agreed, To the OP I find it funny those that still have their jobs are so high and mighty and quick to point fingers..everyones day comes, so enjoy waiting in line until your numbers called, then you'll see how nice it is when the tables turn. Cheers!

My wife has a restaurant, and she can't find decent employees, because Americans are all too lazy, slow, undependable, drugged out, or they are thieves, or all of the above. Sure, it's only minimum wage plus tips, but don't tell me there are NO jobs. Bullcrap.

wish i knew where you are,,if you are within 50 miles of me i would take that job,,,been out of work for 3 monthe after my company sold and they "eliminated" my job,,i look everyday so all you people saying i'm lazy are asshats

It really depends on what area you live. I have applies for around 50 jobs. So far I have only got interviewed once. This includes fast food, grocery stores, everything. I have put that I can work any hours any day of the week on every resume also. I know for a fact that the grocery stores around here get around 100 resumes a week.
