Because her sense of identity comes from you. She could be a Narcissist. Often times they only identify with those who appear to be successful to the world. It is how they get self-validation. When they give compliments...they don't feel "real" to the person getting them. That is because they are meant to suck the adoration from your life and make it their own. As a Mom of three I can tell you honestly your mom has probably always thought you were beautiful she maybe just thought you knew that already. Maybe she tells you know because she realized you needed to hear it . Please don't hold it against her.
