I understand how you would think that way. While man has made a ton of animals extinct it was happening anyway. We have made life a lot better for a ton of animals. Look at house cats for instance. Some can live to be 20-30 years old. Would that be the case if we wern't here? And do you think the earth cares about us? It was here billions of years before us and will be here billions of years after us.
