You were raised by others, maybe even grandparents or relatives who have fed you, clothed you, made sure you saw the doctor when you were not well. You have been encouraged to learn and had talents developed because of the ones raising you. This woman who gave birth to you could not have done a better job. Coming from a home in which the mother belittled her children, cursed them, harmed them, discouraged them...you have no idea how luck you are to not have been raised by someone who didn't want you there. I hope you sisters can stay close and encourage each other. The bond of a sister can be so much stronger due to knowing where one has come from, rather than the bond of a mother who doesn't want to be there for her children. Just because a woman may be present in the lives of her children, does not guarantee that she will deliver the love the children need.

I have young cousins in a similar situation. I think they are so lucky that their narcasistic mother did not have them long enough to ruin the many opportunities they now have. I am so proud of them and know that the awards and achievements they have obtained are the exact things their own mother failed at gaining in her own life. She would have ruined their chances because she could never stand to have them outshine her. Her loss. These are great girls.

Years later a second cousin filled her in on her mother's past and then the reasons for her behaviour became clear. She has not forgiven her mother but at least she understands. A wonderful, loving woman took the children in and raised them. This woman is her true mother. People put too much emphasis on sperm and egg donors - your real mother is the woman who was there for you.
