i think most everyone feel your pain these days. as a single mother i truly know your pain. i am a full time student with a full time job. the bills are stacking up, while i know i need a degree to get a good job in this town, im not sure how much longer i can stay in school with no other financial help to raise my son with. :(

To the Op. I know exactly what it is like to be in your position. I went through a divorce and lost everything I worked for. It has taken me years just to get to the point where I have a little money at the end of the month. Many times my Low Fuel light was on several days before my next paycheck without a dime to my name. I promise, things will get better. I know it does not feel that way, but it will get better. You just need to get some time behind you. An easy way to make some more money on the side is to talk to a nursing home for advice on where to take classes for Certified Nurses Aide. They are in big demand. The classes will last from a few weeks to about 5 months. Then you will be paid from $10.00 to around $13.00 or so. It is hard work in a nursing home. Working two jobs is also tough. But two paychecks will be enough to get you back on your feet enough so you can decide what direction you want to take your life. Now that I have breathing room I am working on a nursing degree. I am a guy, by the way. Best wishes.

Yes, I admit democratic politicians are not perfect and this country is inherently corrupt, but the dems at least have standards for minimum wage, work safety, workers rights, health ins. for all, fair taxation.... I feel the same way. We're losing our beautiful home that we worked so hard for! We've owned 3 homes with our bank and never ONCE was late on a payment in 24 years and last year my husband was let go from his job of almost 30 years when the big 3 auto plants went down. Now we're screwed, I can't make enough to support the family and we have until this winter to get out. This is our home we have cleaned and fixed up for the last 12 years. It sucks to think that some jack ass bank is going to take it back and sell it to someone else for a fraction of what we were trying to pay for it! Something is VERY wrong here. We wanted a change but the change we got SUCKS!

^^^I am glad there are a few intelligent people on here. I read The Closing of the American mind in college as a political science requirement. As liberal as colleges are in America, I was surprised to see that I would be required to read something like that. Looking back I am not surprised, but back then I was. Allen Bloom' ideals was a conservative, but he identified with no conservative movements. Probably because of the faults in the thinking of either party. At least by his perspective. You can google Bloom and read exerpts about him.

1 up I read that book years ago. It was an eye opener. Especially the last chapter. He illustrated how America was doing the things in the same manner as what was going on in Germany shortly prior to Hitler rising to power. Bloom's book was written in the 1980s and his predictions are eerily coming to pass. You can probably find something on him on wikipedia

Read the book in college for Western Civilization class. It was indeed an excellent book. It makes me want to purchase the book and read it again to see how accurate his predictions have become. He really hammered on modern America and higher education.

I looked at the wikipedia site. the author you mentioned is on there. It has a section on the book mentioned above. It looks like a good book. It is interesting how he argues how America's self-interest are similar to Germany's Weimer Republic before Adolf Hitler became the leader. I am surprised to see that a guy who would write a book like that would have been taught by the same guy(Leo Strauss) who taught the people who served in the Bush Administration(Richard pearle) Irvin Kristol, another bloom student was a big influence in the Bush administration.
