Why should they know that? That is between the both of you. Do you want them to feel like you are superior? Should he feel superior if he does the same??? This is a clear example of EGO and PRIDE

We live in a totally different time now days OP. No one cares who brings home the bacon any more, except for a few hold outs from the 70's who still hope for a single wage earner. Thanks to unions, those days are LONG gone. First, it's nobody's business who makes what in your home, so who cares. Second, what difference does it make who contributes what to the pool. Carry on and forget what others think.

2 up: Unions are at fault for America's demise? LOL That is a good one. Unions comprize 12% of the working population. How are they to blame? So, what you are implying is if we get rid of that 12%, the country will get ripping again? LOLIt is corporations who are dismantling business in America and reassembling them in places like China whom are to blame. Look up what Nike is paying some workers in countries to make those $100.00 shoes. They pay workers in Indonesia $37.00 EACH MONTH> That includes medical, housing, transportation to work, and food while at work. General Motors was once the largest employer in America. Now it is Walmart. But General Motors is the largest Private employer in China. They were never broke overseas. The profits they made in America went into building world-class factories overseas. Then they cried being broke and the U.S. Government, knowing full-well what General Motors was up to, bailed them out anyway.

^^You are absolutely correct in your assessment. I think 4 up is listening to too much Rush Limbaugh instead of doing legitimate research on their own.

idk the story, but if I was keeping my family afloat and my in-laws thought it was my husband doing all the hard work. I'd be pretty pissed for busting my ass and working hard to keep my family going, mean while everyone is thinking the opposite. But maybe that is just a womans perspective. Good Job!!!! You are an amazing and strong woman!!!

It is about time women start pulling their weight in society

If you love your husband why does it matter that you are keeping the family afloat and no one else knows but you two. If your in laws are the type that look down upon you for some reason I can understand your feelings but if it isn't like that then just be proud that you are able to help take care of your family. I would give anything to be able to help my husband take care of us but I lack an education.

OP here: To finish the tale - his family thinks he has this prestigious, high paying sales job. The father-in-law is always telling me how I'd better get busy or my husband is gonna leave me for a woman who can bring home the bacon the way his son does! What a load of crap - I get tired of hearing it, but laugh and say something lame like, "you never know." My husband is embarrassed he's not making more, but he likes the company he works for and he likes sales.

Your husband should stand up to his father and put him in his place!! Your husband's FIRST obligation is to you!

^exatly, otherwise he is a pussy. are you a lesbian op? if not tell him to grow a pair!

^^My thoughts exactly. I would never, ever leave my wife hanging to my dad in such a way. Especially if he is making snide comments about me finding another women. That is passive aggression. He is actually degrading you and pretending not to. You need to put your husband in his place and tell him to tell his parents to truth. It is a good idea for him to tell his family to stay out of his marriage

No, not a lesbian. I wouldn't call my husband a pussy, I wish he'd tell his dad that's not funny and to stop saying it, that our finances are "fine" and nothing for him to worry about. Think I'll tell my husband this, see what he says.

Just because she makes more money than him doesn't mean he doesn't work hard. He may work very hard. But I agree, once you are married, you gotta have your spouses back first!

All this ranting about unions, if america would have not been so selfish as to continue to buy what china produced, simply quit spending, the companies who left america would have come back and kept jobs here - but no, the americans have to buy everything china produced and piled up lots of china junk - and millions of jobs are now over seas, I guess we should blame ourselves.
Remove this stupid comment

yes, blame ourselves and the greedy companys that went there !!

1 up. Well, 2 up has a point. We want cheap products, so we go to Walmart, and dollar stores-places filled with chinese goods, and we go to clothing stores without checking the tags to see if they are American made, then wonder why greedy companies move to China. On another perspective, just so you will realize how greedy American companies are, my shoes are made in America. They are made in San Antonio Texas. The company is S A S. I have never worn more comfortable shoes. The shop is non-union and I assume filled with Mexicans, since the majority of the city is populated by them. My new tennis shoes cost me $170.00. I buy them because they have 2EE wide sizes. Their dress shoes are more comfortable than any I have worn. Including Bruno Magli, and Rockports.

Ft. Payne,Al. had 262 textile mills at one time. Now there is 2. Not one was union. So much for the union did it theory.

2 up. My point about unions exactly. All the politicians from both American political parties, except maybe Ron Paul and Bernie Sanders, support globalism. American corporations and politicians use democracy to those countries for the excuse why they support it. But when you are paying people $1.00 a day, the only outcome will be the destruction of America's way of life it has known for 70 years. If you people do not have your shit together financially I suggest you do what is necessary. Within 10 years our country will be a wreak far worse than now. Watch and see.

I didn't even read most of these points. Since your father in-law is making those horrible assessments of your family, I think your husband has a duty and responsibility to you and your family to set the record straight. You don't deserve to have this condescention and demeaning attitude directed at you! If your husband doesn't do it, then by all means. Spill the beans. Let them know their comments aren't wanted or accurate and bullseye the whole thing. And for anyone interested in my thoughts on the unions, go read the post I left on the one about unions going away. THEY HAVE RUINED THE COUNTRY and anyone who thinks 12% is a successful number, I think you need math classes. And ask yourself how many jobs went overseas because unions nearly bankrupted the companies who gave you jobs! Here's some research for ya. And for the record, I did it on my own. The secretary, trained by a local votech school for a very public union president makes twice as much money as the people (teachers) they "represent". Now that's special. Let me turn over hard earned money to someone who is going to pay a less trained individual twice what they have "negotiated" for me. Awesome....now do your own research and see if you don't wake up.

If it makes you feel better, put on a strap on and screw your father-in-law in the ASS.

Okay, we're going to the in-laws for dinner tomorrow evening. I talked to hubby about it while we at dinner this evening. He is afraid his dad will treat him worse - his parents are pretty hateful to all their kids, you can never know more than them, the only way they can handle that you might have more is because "that boy's a chip off the block - works hard like his ol' man did!" Hubby promised me, if his father starts, he's going to tell him to stop, it's not funny, and I don't deserve it. We'll see what happens.

Good luck to you! I'm proud of him for stepping up to the plate and the only thing I can say now is he married YOU, you did not marry his family. If his family can't remain inside reasonable boundaries, then visits may need to be very few and far between. Please update us!
