I lived in Philadelphia for 6 years and they never bothered me. I'm a tall skinny white guy. I just would look them in the eye for a moment (not stairing) and walk past. Seemed to work. If you act aware and like you won't back down they will leave you alone. They aren't about a challenge. Plus they will think your packing and just waiting for your chance to put one in the ground.

  While there are many fine black people and black families, blacks as a population cohort disproportionally account for a lion's share of violent crimes, recipents of expensive social welfare programs, and out of wedlock (70%) births. Google "The Color of Crime" and you will see. Black people did not act this way in the fifties, and if anything, the black community as a whole is regressing!

  I had the same issue.  Worked in a restaurant and always had to find a reasonable excuse not to be the one to serve a guy of a particular build.  I was 12 when it happened.  Somewhere in my late 20's that general fear faded.  Though I know if I ever find that guy I'll kill him.
