My mother had brain surgery last summer. She takes a lot of medication. If she drinks 1 drink, she makes no sense. I told her if she doesn't quit drinking I will commit her. Now she hides the booze.

  | Ouch. I have a good friend in a similar situation, and her mother has begged her not to send her to a treatment facility because she knows that will be the end. But her mom has lucid moments that my friend really treasures. It has taken a lot of work to be able to do in-home care, but she knows that her mom isn't going to last much longer in the state she's in and this is worth it to her. My advice is: weigh all of your options very carefully before putting your mother in the system. God bless.
