I detest religious people who spank their children. The Bible even says to kill your children if they disobey (Deut 21:18-21). Why obey such obvious evil?

Most people that are religious are only part-timers, which means, they only believe in god on Sundays, Christmas, and when someone is dying/dead. They don't actually follow through. Plus you HAVE to keep in mind that the bible is only a book of stories to help guide you in life. Also, it was written by a bunch of narcissistic hypocrites. Take what you will from that book to help you improve your life. Also remember, you're judging other people which is against your religion. Hate is a very strong word.

You obviously don't have any children. Lack of spanking is contributing to the biggest problems in our society, religious or not. In fact, I don't even see what one has to do with the other. I hate non-religiopus people who visit Rome... whut?

OP here - 1. I didn't say I was a Christian, so it's not "my" religion. 2. I never said "hate". 3. I agree that the Bible is a conglomerate of stories; that was my point. 4. The entire thrust of my comment was that the Bible's teachings on how to treat children are barbaric and violent, so it's amazing that people follow them. It teaches people to beat, and even kill, disobedient children. Maybe try to actually read the post before commenting next time ;)

2 up - lack of spanking is contributing to the biggest problems in society? That's completely idiotic! Actually, spanking CAUSES far more problems than it creates. Spanking causes children to harbor deep-seated resentment and act out on it later through violent acts. Children should NEVER be spanked, it's child abuse. Beating a child is not a form of discipline, it is the failure of discipline.

You're all fools and should be spanked.

it is my Christianity that keeps me from killing people like you. Christianity actually saved me from my old way. I am one of those that got beat, not spanked, but I have not had to spank my children but I do believe in spanking. P.S. Deut. is in the Old testament which is before Christ died for us to save us from being so barbaric. Just so you know.

^ To above. You clearly do not know the Bible. Jesus stated emphatically that the Old Testament is still completely valid for his followers. Not one single aspect of it has been done away with (Matthew 5: 17-18). To suggest that the OT is no longer valid is the heresy of Antinomianism. Therefore, Christians are still required by Jesus to kill their disobedient children. You need to actually study the Bible you follow before you try to engage in theology. You fail.

Totally agree. Spanking shows a real lack of understanding. If you have to beat your kids then you are not good at parenting. Good parents know how to get their kids to behave without beating them. Take it from experience with 5 wonderful well behaved kids, you do not need to spank them if you are intelligent.

It's liberal minded a** ****s like you that have this country is such a mess. When every one spanked their children, children behaved and had respect.

"When every one spanked their children, children behaved and had respect"??? That's possibly the most asinine thing ever written. The spanking generations in America produced two world wars, the genocide of millions of Native Americans, the Cold War, the McCarthy Era, and millions of emotionally distant fathers. You call that good behavior and respect? You're foolish if you think beating your children produces respect. It produces fear, which WILL manifest later as anger and violence. You're creating a time bomb. Enjoy your retirement.

^ And the Dr. Spock non spanking flaming liberals produced an entire generation of children who carry guns and shoot people dead on the streets of America for their tennis shoes or their cars. Spanking is not beating, it's you and the likes of you that don't know the difference and raise children that mock you behind your back and do whatever they please because they know no consequences that have caused the majority of problems in society today. Your children know no fear so they perpetrate violence on every corner with absolutely no conscience whatsoever. Genocide, wars, McCarthyism were generated by the unspanked and coddled children of the bourgousie and the aristocracy using well disciplined children as fodder for their Military. Distant fathers come from men who were so spoiled and undisciplined they have no clue about nurturing and family. You liberal a** ****s make me sick with your cry baby, coddling bull shit. You have no clue about what life is really all about. Kiss my spanked ass!

^ Above - you clearly have no grasp of history. Your timeline is completely off. The 50's (McCarthyism and distant fathers) were the result of children raised in the 30's - the era of spanking. AND, you miss the entire premise of the original post. The point is that the Bible teaches parents to beat and kill their children, which is a fact. Your angry and vitriolic attitude is all the proof I need that spanked children grow up to be violent, angry people. I suggest you get counseling before you go too far while beating your children.

^I couldn't agree more! Thank you for injecting sanity into this melee!

The bible taught to stone an unruly child or thos that were sinners in the Old testament as you stated and that is fact. It also states in the new testament that we no longer have to pay for our sins as we did in the Old testament. The Laws are still valid, yese, but the punishment is already paid by the blood of Christ. therefore the stonings and beatings are no longer required. Pulling an excerpt from the Bible to create this type of disagreement is not much different than someone paraphrasing your statement above as saying "I detest people" can't pull quite all of the meaning out of bits and pieces. Facts are facts and can be manipulated to mean what you want, but I think it a reflection of your own personality whether you pull out the good meaning or the bad.

^ Your theology is fatally flawed. Jesus not only kept the requirement of the Law, but he upped the ante - said that even mental sins were condemning. At no point did he ever state that the punishment for sin in this life was eradicated. The stonings in the OT were not to pay for the sin (the sacrificial system did that), but to punish the sinner. Those punishments are still valid under the New Covenant, as demonstrated with the execution of Ananias and Sapphira. The only reason Jesus stopped the stoning of the woman caught in adultery was because it was illegal (the man she sinned with was not present). He did not condemn the act of stoning. You are guilty of what most Christians do - whitewash their own scriptures with flawed and immature theology.

But as you just said Jesus wasn't Crucified yet therefore the debt remained unpaid.
Remove this stupid comment

*sigh*... once again, in Christian theology, Jesus' death provided the expiation of sin. But the consequences in THIS life still remain. Ananias and Sapphira were killed by God AFTER Jesus' resurrection. Christian theology deals with what happens to you AFTER death, even if you died by being stoned by religious zealots. Jesus was very clear that all the OT laws are still valid (i.e.: he never condemned the stonings and ritual killings that the OT commands). If you follow Paul, however, the Law has been eradicated. That's one of the many areas where Paul contradicted what Jesus taught. Paul's theology is NOT what Jesus believed. One of the many reasons why the Bible should not be followed by moral people - it's just too contradictory.

I agree with the poster who wrote that they didn't need to spank, that they made there children mind and behave without spanking. Spanking is just like saying, "I give up" My children have never been spanked, and they are great kids. Yes, they misbehave, and we deal with it. all kids misbehave. I believe the bible is filled with all kinds of weirdness: Incest, prostitution, killings, rape, selling children. You can't pick and choose, if you follow it to the letter, youre going to end up in a lot of trouble.

I think spanking is a form of dicipline and punsihment that should be used under only extreme circumstances. When I was a kid, I didn't get spanked often, I probably didn't get spanked after I was 7 or so, but I knew I would get spanked if I pulled something. That in itself was a deterrant. So spanking is not abuseive, however excessive and outraged spanking is. It's those parents that take spanking beyoned the "Symbolic meaning" of dicipline that need to wise up because that pain teaches us hate, resentment and that we have the capacity to inflict pain on others to get them to behave as we want.

So don't spank your brats or teach them any respect or manners. If you gave a shit you wouldv'e thought twice about bringing them into this f-ed up world in the first place. You are just adding to the scum. Don't expect them to care enough to take care of you when you are old.

Total lack of understanding on your part, I know it's pointless to go into it more,- too many people believe what they want to believe and they "prove" it a priori.

I am a child who was spanked and i am currently at university studying graphic design. I am not a violent person and have a lot of respect for my parents. To add to this i am from a divorced family. Most of you will put me in the category of "exceptions" to whatever rules you have decided for your OWN lives and they are exactly that your lives, Live them and stop sticking your noses into others lives, if something works for you doesn't mean it will work for all. Get over it!
