Not all fat people are fat because they sit around all day eating! Some people were injured and sick and can't do much but lay around or take it easy and the weight can come on fast. Nobody sets out to be a fat ass! With a** ****s like you in the world it just makes life harder. Fat people cost this country in healthcare more than any other malady. Healthcare should be charged by the pound. I agree it's ugly but the cost to each and everyone of us is an even worse tragedy. Then again, with the society we live in, I'm surprised there are any non fat people.

Malady? Sheesh, how freaking old are you? You probably come from that old fashion era where anyone overweight was treated like they were a freak and could only get jobs in the circus. Smokers cost health care industry as well, so do alcoholics and drug addicts! It's not just the overweight that's costing for health care. I know plenty of people that are my size (average) with high cholesterol and high B/P! I also know some large family members that aren't on any meds at all. So don't lump EVERY fat person into the demise of the health care system. Only narrow minded idiots would think like that.

The statistic I mentioned is easily found on the internet should you have the intelligence to find it. Smokers, drinkers, drug addicts and others are separate similar problems that shuold be dealt with as individually and appropriately. As for the word malady I wasn't aware of any age limit for it or any word. So I guess when you say: "Only narrow minded idiots would think like that." You're just projecting your own one track thinking. Obesity IS the most pernicious disorder in humans and causes a myriad of complications from sugar diabetes to knee replacement. What's worse is that it's a decision not a disease. I rather be from that "old fashion era where anyone overweight was treated like they were a freak" than another dumbo like you must be, who wants to rationalize your gluttonous behaviour at the expense of society. Fat people shouldn't be given handicap plates. They should be made to park in the rear of the lot and walk the farthest to the entrance. If they want special treatment for being lazy and shiftless, they should have to wear a sign that says " WIDE-LOAD" visible from front and rear. Welfare, foodstamp, and subsidized housing recipients should be treated the same way. If they want a handout... Then their new job is to be ridiculed by taxpayers who support them.

I'm surprised at how defensive people are getting over obesity... A problem that is completely reversible! Probably because one out of two people on this site are overweight. It disgusts me that there are fat people shoving their faces full of food when there are millions dying of starvation around the world. Just think, if every fat person took the three dollars they spent on a big mac everyday, and donated it to charity, we could end world hunger.

I see this every day in the clinic where I work. The fact is these people come up with every excuse in the book for why this happened and why they can't lose it. My doctor said I couldn't exercise, the meds I am on, the glandular condition (less than 3 % actually have this, which is reversible. But you would believe 50% of our obese patients are affected, if you listened to them). Year after year they return, diagnosed with a "weakness", if not a hip or knee or back surgery. It is hard to just turn the other cheek. We espouse exercise, it is our mantra. They can barely squeeze into a machine.
