Getting off of anti-depressants will either kill me or make me better. I'm willing to take that chance, I can't take being a zombie anymore.

You can do it. Congrats on having the courage to try and the fact that you know you are a zombie on them is a good sign that you will succeed. Learn to ride the waves of your feelings and give yourself time and space and allowance to have them and express them and you will be fine. Especially anger because depression is anger unexpressed and turned inward.I know because I did it too. I wish you the very best.

I tried it twice and I fell deeper each time. If your don't work, go back to the doctor and try a different one. I find that after several years the meds stop working but there are new ones available. Don't stop without the help of a psychiatrist

I agree with the above; getting of may return you to the lowest and highest peaks and valleys. The key is to keep yourself involved in something that gives your life an outlet...express yourself. I quit last summer and dropped over 300 pounds and have the best body I have ever had at 50 because I exercise as an outlet. Good luck. You can always go back if you really need to but stay in touch with your shrink about it.

A psychiatrist is going to keep you on the meds at all costs. They won't get their kickbacks if they don't write the script for you. You can get off them on your own just be sure to have a plan in the case you run into trouble. Don't keep trying new ones. They really don't know how all these drugs affect us long term and don't really care. Making money and keeping people as "zombies" is the only goal.

I know exactly what you are going through I had been misdiagnosed with manic depression and had been on anti depressants for 4 years before I found out I was miss diagnosed. Getting off the medication is slow because you must decrease your dosage gradually until you are off of it. Even then though it takes several months for it all to get out of your system. Trust me though once it is all done and if you really honestly need off of the medicine it is soo worth it because you are once yourself again.

Continued from previous it will also cause physical pain not to mention you may hear and see shit that just isnt there. Dont worry because it is a side effect from stopping the medicine and it will go away.

Thanks for all of the encouragement everyone!

Yeah, thanks Dr. Dumbass. Everyone knows that Zombies can only be neutralized by self righteous sea-psychiatrists. Their continous babble bring even the most hardened undead to wish they too were as smart and gay as them.

Snore to the person who wrote a self help novel. I just nodded off reading that crap. To the poster- don't go off without help. To the snore- look how I summarized..try it!

Medications are not the answer. How did people cope before the pharmaceutical industry? Go for a walk.

I went off my psych meds about six years ago. The meds had taken over my life. I was exhausted all the time because the meds make you tired. I could barely climb a couple of flights of stair without being out of breath. I had so much medication in my body that when I peed, you culd smell the medication in my urine, like toxic waste. I sat down with my doctor and we worked out a schedule to taper off all the meds. (You have to do this or there could be dangerous withdrawals) I lost over twenty pounds right away because the meds retain so much water in your body, and now I live with no meds at all! My life has not become any easier but I have learned to cope without help from "big pharma!"
